Story of Pine Dining by rakovalkeat.fi
HEIKKI AHOPELTO
After almost 30 years in professional kitchens and food business I finally was able to put together two loves of my life - local food and outdoor living. It took a while as I needed some time to think about it.
PINE DINING by rakovalkeat.fi is the result of my inevitable affair with local food and great outdoors of Finland. I welcome you to enjoy this affair with me - naturally in the Finnish woods!
If you want to eat, I'll cook for you.
If you want to hike, I'll be both the guide and the freight train.
In case you want to do both, I'm more than happy to join. Your wish is my command.

What an earth is a Rakovalkea?
Rakovalkea is a traditional Finnish method of making a long-lasting fire in the wilderness.
Along direction of the wind, two large logs about six feet of length are placed parallel to each other with a few centimeters gap in between. Dry wood chips and branches are placed in the gap, and the fire is lit. The fire burns steadily along the length of the gap as the wind helps in the burning process to consume the fuel provided by the logs.
The fire lasts long without requiring constant tending and it provides heat and light for the traveler through the night.
'Rakovalkeat' is plural to one 'rakovalkea'.
